Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star Khama Billiat is making headlines after it was revealed that he owes a leading bank around R400 000.

Thanks to his huge following, the news has thrust the Zimbabwean talisman into the top trends.

R400K DEBT CLAIM HANGS OVER KHAMA BILLIAT’S HEAD

Despite being among the highest-paid Premier Soccer League stars during his stints in South Africa, the football maestro failed to settle one of his debts before leaving for Zimbabwe for a clean start after dumping Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

According to reports, the debt relates to an overdraft credit facility granted to Khama Billiat in 2020. However, little is known about the actual amount of the overdraft credit.

The amount has since ballooned to over R370 000, with the rumour mill claiming it is now around R400 000. The Zimbabwean footballer last paid his instalments in 2023.

According to reports, Khama Billiat was expected to pay monthly instalments between R80 000 and R90 000, but he failed to make the payments, leaving the bank with no option but to pursue legal routes to recoup the debt.

His relocation to Zimbabwe has made it hard for the court sheriffs to track down the star.

The court sheriffs have struggled to serve him with necessary legal documents, delaying the bank’s attempts to recover the money.

However rumour mill has it that the financial institution might consider other legal means to recoup the funds.

Khama Billiat has yet to address the reports that have since seen him making headlines for the wrong reasons.

MAKING HEADLINES

After all this, it is not the first time he has made headlines due to his financial woes.

Last year, Khama Billiat was reportedly dragged to courts by a creditor after he “failed to keep up with the payment of the bond agreement”.

According to reports, “An entity known as Emerging Markets Home Loans applied to the Pretoria High Court for an eviction order against five occupants, who have been staying in Khama Billiat’s house since return to Zimbabwe.”

The publication noted that the star was not paying monthly instalments for his Midrand property.

According to reports, the star’s failure to pay instalments “prompted the finance service provider to put the house on auction to recoup the R1.7 million loan.”
