Meanwhile, the FIFA international week break has been the busiest for coach Fabio Lopez of Callies. The Italian coach has already been given the name ‘Takalani’, which means Happiness, by the club supporters.

Lopez has beefed up his technical team with the appointment of former Bafana Bafana defender Fani Mthethwa as assistant coach.

He will be working with former Steenberg FC assistant coach Zane Ryklief. Mthethwa last played his professional football career in Qatar.

Mthethwa’s appointment follows the departure of Bushy Moloi. The latter has reportedly not entirely left the club but is busy with his CAF Coaching Licence. He is also focusing on rebuilding the TUT varsity team after the three-time varsity champions had a poor performance for the 2024 season.

Callies will be back in action with an away fixture against Hungry Lions on Saturday afternoon [3PM]. In the three games that Lopez has been in charge, he has played two draws and lost one match.

These include the draws against Milford FC and Durban City FC, where Callies played with 10-man on the field in both games after red cards. They also lost against Black Leopards.

The 51-year-old has been given a mandate to build a team to compete for promotion to the SA elite league next season.

Callies are currently at position 14 on the log after six matches played so far in the current season.
