Eskom set to implement 36-hour power outage in eThekwini

Eskom will conduct planned maintenance at the Mpumalanga Substation under the eThekwini Municipality, resulting in a 36-hour power outage over multiple weekends. 

The maintenance will be conducted from 5:00 – 17:00 starting on Saturday, 25 January. 

ESKOM ANNOUNCES POWER OUTAGE IN ETHEKWINI 

The eThekwini Municipality said the planned power outage will interrupt electricity supply from the Mpumalanga Substation over three weekends (including Mondays), as follows:

  • 25 to 27 January 
  • 1 to 3 February and,
  • 15 to 17 February

The public will experience daily outages from 5:00 – 17:00 during these periods.

The metro municipality said the supply interruption is required to allow Eskom to refurbish the electrical infrastructure at the Georgedale Substation, which feeds the Mpumalanga Substation. 

“To execute this work safely, it is necessary to interrupt the electricity supply at the Mpumalanga Substation. 

“Maintenance work is required to improve the reliability of these substations, leading to a higher quality of electricity supply in the area.”

It is important to note that during this period, the Mpumalanga township will be affected, and customers in this area are urged to plan for this outage.
