Emotions escalate in Monnapule Saleng-Orlando Pirates standoff

Things go from bad to worse for Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng.

According to reports, the 27-year-old is demanding a pay rise from his R70,000 per week contract – the Buccaneers are yet to budge; instead, they’ve exercised their right to trigger a two-year contract extension, further complicating the fiasco.

It’s been over three months since Saleng featured for Orlando Pirates, a timespan that looks unlucky to stop anytime soon. The ordeal has affected the winger’s psyche: “He’s struggling. He’s not taking this Pirates thing well. Mentally, he’s not in the best place,” a FARPost source revealed.

With no resolve in sight, Saleng looks likely to leave in the offseason.

Riveiro to leave?

Question marks also surround Jose Riveiro, who has yet to confirm his future at the club following Orlando Pirates’ attempt to sign him to a new three-year deal.

“There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season. His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home,” a source explained.

“The league title may decide the coach’s future. That’s what’s believed as things stand. Nothing has been agreed upon because the coach hasn’t made up his mind,

“He has made it clear that he misses home and family. And will only consider his future at the end of the season. However, the club has already opened talks with his representatives, hoping for the best outcome.”

We hope to see Saleng back on the pitch soon.
