The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have launched a scathing attack on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Oval Office meeting with US President Donald Trump, labelling the event “imperialist theatre” orchestrated to vilify EFF leader Julius Malema and derail South Africa’s land reform efforts.
According to the EFF, the widely publicised meeting, which was expected to focus on diplomatic and economic ties, veered into a “discussion about Julius Malema and the land question.”
The party criticised Ramaphosa for failing to defend the constitutional legitimacy of the land reform agenda, calling his silence “cowardice.”
“The meeting ended up being a discussion about the President and Commander-in-Chief of the EFF and his correct and principled position regarding the return of the land to African people,” the party said.
EFF: ‘A White Monopoly Capital Summit’
The EFF lashed out at Ramaphosa’s delegation, which included billionaire Johann Rupert, golf legend Ernie Els, and DA leader John Steenhuisen, describing them as “white privileged men” aligned with capital interests.
EFF claims Trump used the opportunity to show videos of Malema chanting “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer,” in what it called an attempt to portray the EFF as a threat. South African courts have ruled that the chant is part of the country’s liberation heritage and not incitement of violence.
Allegations of a Political Pact
In one of its most serious claims, the EFF alleged a secret pact between the ANC and the DA to prevent the EFF from rising to power.
“John Steenhuisen who then confirmed that they reached a pact with the ANC to keep the EFF out of power,” the party stated.
The EFF also condemned Rupert’s lobbying for Elon Musk’s Starlink project, claiming it revealed the meeting’s true agenda promoting foreign corporate interests at the expense of local economic sovereignty.
Defiant Stand on Land Reform
Despite international pressure, the EFF vowed not to retreat on land reform or its political stance.
“Our Commander in Chief can be considered in the line of great revolutionaries,” the party said.
“We will never bow to imperialism.”
