EFF made mistake dubbing MK Party ‘enemy number 1’: Shivambu

Floyd Shivambu has responded to the EFF dubbing the uMkhonto WeSizwe Party ‘enemy number one’ in a press briefing held on Saturday.

Having gone through expulsion from the ANC alongside Julius Malema and serving as not only a co-founder of the EFF, but also it’s Deputy President, Shivambu’s ties to the party run deep.

Shivambu’s take on the EFF declaring new political home an enemy

Despite this deep tie to the EFF, Shivambu’s attitude towards the MK Party being declared ‘enemy number one’ is that a mistake has been made.

“It was a mistake in categorisation. It’s not possible for, just by the nature of your constituencies, and the people, and the interests, and the politics that you represent. No matter how much subjectivity overwhelms you, there are certain categorisations that cannot be true.” Shivambu said.

Shivambu went on to insinuate that the MK Party and the EFF could not be enemies based on personal differences.

“No matter how you think of certain individuals, in terms of their politics and posture, you have to be able to distinguish as a revolutionary between opponents, between potential strategic allies and enemy forces.” Shivambu explained.

ANC in the hands of enemy forces: Shivambu

Using the ANC as an example of how the EFF is mistaken in it’s belief that the MK Party is an enemy, Shivambu explained:

“We know as uMkhonto weSizwe that the ANC is largely in the hands of enemy forces now, in terms of its ideological disposition. That is why they have got no problem associating with enemy forces and forming a government with them. Giving them strategic departments of basic education, of land. Despite the fact that we know that they are in bed with enemy forces, we didn’t categorise the African National Congress as an enemy force. We said that it’s a contested opponent.”

Shivambu called for a ‘mature’ approach from the EFF in declaring enemies in the political arena, adamant that personal differences should be set aside.

“If you allow that to overwhelm you, you’ll miscategorise the juncture which we are in and, therefor, you will miscategorise just what needs to be done by common action by all progressive forces.” Shivambu concluded.

Do you agree with Shivambu that the EFF and MK Party have such strong core ideals that they cannot be categorised as enemies?
