EFF just not good enough for Mkhwebane

Disgraced former public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has turned her back on Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

It is understood she is joining Jacob Zuma’s Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK).

Mkhwebane, who has resigned as a Member of Parliament, was parachuted into the EFF’s ranks despite long-serving regional leaders waiting in line. This was after she lost her salary when Parliament impeached her. Only a week ago, her legal bid to get a R10-million payout failed.

The EFF made her an MP, securing her a salary of more than R1.2-million, but she left without warning. As the EFF’s presence in Parliament weakens, the party lost 10 seats, reducing its strength as an opposition force.

The MK, with 58 MPs, has become the official opposition and a powerful force outside the Government of National Unity.

Speaking on the SMWX podcast, Mkhwebane criticised the EFF’s leadership structure, saying it offered no political growth for senior members.

Former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu, now MK’s national organiser, praised Mkhwebane.

“Advocate Mkhwebane is one of the most disciplined, hard-working and skilled professionals I know. She never sacrifices principle on the altar of convenience,” he said.

The MK has been welcoming former Zuma allies, such as former Transnet CEO Siyabonga Gama, former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe, and former Prasa boss Lucky Montana, into its ranks.
