Controversial businessman and socialite Edwin Sodi is making headlines after he added another nightclub to his business empire.

The news has since thrust him into top trends, with many convinced that he is now switching the floor to the nightclub business after his company Blackhead was seemingly blacklisted.

Last year, he made headlines when he acquired the majority stake in LIV Sandton (formerly known as Taboo), a celebrity spot in Sandton, after a legal tussle with his partners.

Almost a year later, the media confirmed that Edwin Sodi was opening another celebrity hotspot in Cape Town.

Confirmed reports state that Edwin Sodi will open LIV Cape Town on 29 November on Bree Street.

Rumour mill have it that the controversial business mogul is running the show since he is the major shareholder.

The who’s who of the entertainment industry are set to descend to the Mother City for the launch.

Over the years, Edwin Sodi has undoubtedly befriended many celebrities and often invited them to his lavish birthday parties.

On the other hand, he has been spotted grooving with a host of A-listers, including Cassper Nyovest and Bobby Blanco.

A DREAM COME TRUE

A source revealed to TimesLive that he owns the place and is already finalising everything. The idea of LIV Cape Town was discussed earlier this year; months later, it’s a true dream for Edwin Sodi.

The source said, “He owns the place now. It’s a done deal. He has been finalising everything this month. The idea came about early this year. He is happy with his latest project.”

Another source added, “The last three months, he has been giving out hints on his status, and you could not pick it up. Cape Town nightlife will never be the same again.

“Edwin Sodi knows the business inside out. The Sandton LIV is a success, and the Cape Town one, there is no doubt about it. We are going to party hard this summer. My bags are ready for the launch.”

News of the LIV nightclub comes after Edwin Sodi reportedly tried to buy The Greenhouse bar and restaurant in Sandton.

Late last year, Edwin Sodi allegedly tried to buy The Greenhouse bar and restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg, for R16 million.

With his 19 active accounts under the watch of the National Prosecuting Authority, Edwin Sodi paid R5 million to Greenhouse owner Heinz Rynners using his lawyer as a front.

However, the troubled businessman failed to settle the remaining balance, leading to the deal’s cancellation.
