Ebenhaezer Dibakwane’s family: ‘He struggled with depression’

The family of comedian Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has released a statement indicating that preliminary evidence suggests the comedian died by suicide.

Dibakwane passed away on 7 March at the age of 31, and his passing has sent shockwaves across the country.

The family of comedian Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has broken its silence on the media personality’s death.

In a statement shared on Tuesday, his family revealed that preliminary evidence suggests he took his own life.

The Dibakwane family also expressed that they are struggling to come to terms with his untimely passing.

“The past few days have been excruciating for us as we battle to deal with this loss. Preliminary evidence suggests Ebby died by suicide, which we expect will be confirmed by the post-mortem examination,” read the statement.

The family also shared that the comedian had struggled with depression and encouraged anyone dealing with depression or suicidal thoughts to reach out to the SA Depression and Anxiety Group.

“Poignantly, Ebby was well-known for the talent of making people laugh, and yet he struggled with depression for a number of years.

“While his passing is devastating for us and many who loved him, it is our prayer that this tragedy may remind all of us of the need to look out for each other, while taking care of our own mental health, including seeking professional help where necessary.”

The family also announced that his memorial service will take place on Wednesday, 12 March, at The Bioscope, 44 Stanley in Milpark. He will be laid to rest on 14 March in Mbombela, Nelspruit.
