  • Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla apologised to Jacob Zuma but refused to retract her criticism of MKP secretary-general Floyd Shivambu.
  • Zuma warned she could be expelled if she does not apologise, but Duduzile insists Shivambu is being unfairly favoured in the party.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, is standing by her criticism of uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) secretary-general Floyd Shivambu.

However, she has apologised to her father for voicing her concerns in public.

This follows a heated exchange on social media where Duduzile accused Shivambu of failing in his duties as the party’s secretary-general.

She has since gained the support of Injenje YabeNguni, a civic traditional organisation aligned with MKP.

“As a committed and disciplined member of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, I hereby extend this unconditional public apology to president Zuma and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party leadership for the profanity used in my recent posts on X,” she said.

Despite the apology, she insists her concerns about Shivambu’s role in the party remain valid. She admits she should have addressed the issue internally instead of airing it publicly.

Duduzile claims that newcomers like Shivambu are being given special treatment over those who helped establish the party.

On Tuesday morning, Jacob Zuma ordered his daughter to apologise to Shivambu after her online outburst. Duduzile, who is also an MP, leads a faction pushing for Shivambu’s removal as secretary-general.

In the remorseless worded apology on Tuesday, Duduzile directs her apology to Zuma, party structures, leadership with no specific apology to Shivambu.

On Monday night, she took to X and posted several insults directed at Shivambu.

Her father has warned her that if she does not apologise, she could be expelled from the party.

Zuma condemned her attacks on Shivambu, calling them “unacceptable, divisive, denigrating, and offensive.”

“These apologies must be made immediately. Following this, an internal disciplinary process will be initiated.

“Failure to comply with this directive will result in immediate consequences, including the summary termination of Commander Duduzile Zuma’s membership in uMkhonto weSizwe Party and her recall from all party responsibilities,” said Zuma.
