Duduzane Zuma has weighed in on the protests outside MK party leader Jacob Zuma’s house. The unrest stems from the suspension of three members of the party over alleged irregularities and contravening the party’s constitution.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when the party gathered for disciplinary processes against Thobani Zuma, Sfiso Zuma and chief whip Kwazi Mbanjwa. The process was presided over by Jacob Zuma and the MK party’s national high command.
Duduzane Zuma: There must be harsh consequences
When the disciplinary action attracted protesters outside of the infamous Nkandla homestead, Jacob Zuma’s son Duduzane Zuma took to social media to voice his displeasure and call for harsh consequences.
“There must be harsh consequences for those protesting outside my father’s house. We know the instigators, and we will not tolerate indiscipline. Gwaza!” Duduzane Zuma
The protesters had gathered outside of the home of the former president to protest against the suspension of the MK party members with spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela confirming the decision.
“Mbanjwa will be immediately removed as chief whip and suspended as a member of the KZN provincial legislature pending the outcomes of the disciplinary process, Thobani Zuma has also been suspended as a member of the KZN provincial legislature with immediate effect pending the outcomes of a disciplinary process.” Nhlamulo Ndhlela
Additionally, Sfiso Zuma has been issued with a cautionary suspension as caucus manager with immediate effect pending the outcome of disciplinary processes.
MK party bank accounts at centre of ordeal
The upheaval in Zuma’s party stems from allegations that Mbanjwa refused to hand over control of the MK party’s bank accounts.
An internal letter signed by secretary-general Floyd Shivambu it was revealed the suspended members ignored a directive from the party’s high command.
“Despite a directive from the high command to hand over all MK Party banking accounts to the provincial convener, Mr Willies Mchunu, the treasurer-general, Dr Thanti Mthanti, and the party leader, Inkosi Chiliza, by December 4 2024, you failed and/or refused to do so,” Floyd Shivambu
Furthermore, it was revealed that the members had approached KwaZulu-Natal legislature without formal consent.
“To add onto your noncompliance or refusal, on December 10 2024, you wrote to the KwaZulu-Natal legislature without the required consent from the president of the MKP or national high command, unconstitutionally divulging confidential and internal party information to third parties.” Floyd Shivambu
Spokesperson Ndhlela has emphasised that the MK party won’t be soft on those who stray from internal policy.
“As an organisation that aims to ensure that it reflects discipline and accountability through its members, MK Party must demonstrate its ability to lead society with dignity and integrity from within its own ranks as an organisation.” Nhlamulo Ndhlela
