DPSA shows Mia le Roux support after Miss Universe withdrawal

The Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) affirmed their support for reigning Miss SA Mia le Roux, after she withdrew from the Miss Universe pageant.

Reigning Miss SA Mia le Roux withdrew from the Miss Universe pageant just two days before the finale, which took place on 17 November in Mexico City, Mexico. The Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) showed their support to Mia. National Chairperson, Patrick Mahlakoane expressed that he commended Mia for putting her well-being above all else.

“Mia’s decision to prioritise her health demonstrates her strength, resilience, and dedication to self-care. We commend her for putting her well-being above all else and acknowledge the immense pressure that comes with representing a nation on the global stage,” said Mahlakoane, according to IOL.

“Mia’s legacy extends far beyond the pageant. Her tireless advocacy has inspired a nation, challenged stereotypes, and paved the way for future generations of individuals with disabilities to participate in mainstream platform,” said Mahlakoane.

MIA LE ROUX SPEAKS OUT AFTER WITHDRAWING FROM THE PAGEANT

The Miss SA Organisation announced that Mia withdrew via a statement on 15 November.

“It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss Universe pageant due to health concerns,” read the statement.

Mia has since revealed that she decided to step down just minutes before her national costume reveal. Miss SA also mentioned vertigo, which is experienced by people who are hearing impaired.

“I am differently abled. And it is not enough to just open doors. But we need to have systems in place to foster true Inclusivity. I hope this experience can help educate the world of pageantry and beyond,” she said.
