The Citizen reports that the South African Police Service (SAPS) found dozens of firearms while raiding the home of well-known business mogul Shauwn Mkhize on 26 November 2024.
The legality of the weapons has come into question, with reports that they allegedly belong to a taxi boss. The raid by SAPS and the South African Revenue Services (SARS) saw many of her assets being seized, including her numerous cars.
POLICE CONFISCATE MORE THAN 40 FIREARMS IN SHAUWN MKHIZE’S HOME
According to reports, the dozens of firearms were found in a safe and another part of the home. They are said to belong to a former presidential protection services police officer who is currently a taxi boss. The ex-officer reportedly provides Mkhize with security services.
The law states that one requires permission from the police and owner of the firearms to store them. The licenses for the firearms found in Mamkhize’s home had allegedly expired.
WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE RAID
Newzroom Afrika reported on 26 November 2024 that there have been numerous controversial reports on the socialite, popularly known as Mkhize, over the past few months. She is said to owe SARS a total of R37 million in unpaid taxes. SARS reportedly shared in August 2024 that they were making progress in the matter concerning her.
East Coast Radio said a source revealed at the time that the raid was connected to a tax-related court order issued in May 2024. The source also allegedly revealed to the radio station that this wasn’t the only property owned by Mkhize that was being searched.
Her other properties in Sandton and Pietermaritzburg were also being raided by authorities. They also stated that a security guard was also allegedly arrested for being in possession of five unlicensed firearms.
SHAUWN MKHIZE’S WORTH REVEALED
The South African reported on Mkhize’s various assets totalling millions on 28 November 2024. She is reported to have mansions, is a tenderpreneur and has a business in the construction industry. There is also a fleet of cars worth more than R55 million.
