The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiaries with Gold Cards are currently making the switch to other ways of receiving payments.
Those who are receiving their grants using the SASSA Gold Cards are trying to switch to Postbank, their personal bank accounts or other means of getting payment. Here’s what to know if you were already receiving your grant in your bank account before the deadline for card replacement.
WHAT TO KNOW IF YOU ARE ALREADY GETTING YOUR SASSA GRANT IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT?
Beneficiaries who had stopped using the Gold Card and were getting paid their SASSA grants in their personal bank accounts do not need to do anything. That’s right. According to SASSA, those already receiving grants in bank accounts do not need to get the Postbank Black Card.
This information was provided on a SASSA document answering frequently asked questions from beneficiaries.
“The new Postbank Black Cards are only being issued to customers using SASSA Gold Cards,” the document read.
OTHER QUESTIONS ASKED BY GRANT BENEFICIARIES REGARDING CARD REPLACEMENT
Another question that SASSA grant beneficiaries have asked is if they should get the Black Card if they have a Postbank card that is a different colour. This is because some of them were already banking with Postbank and have cards that are green or blue etc.
In response, SASSA said: “No, not yet. Postbank Black Cards are only issued to SASSA Gold Cards customers.”
Also, some SASSA grant recipients have purported that they have been told to open bank accounts due to Gold Cards having expired. They will also need to fill in certain forms before doing the card replacement. SASSA, however, refuted these claims labelling them as untrue.
“This is not true. You do not need to fill in any forms or open a bank account. Simply take your ID to any of the Postbank card replacement sites to collect your Black Card. Postbank is the only institution that is mandated to replace the Gold Cards,” SASSA stated.
