Popular TikToker Darren Campher has gained immense popularity through voicing his strong political and social opinions. After garnering admiration for his progressive views, he has left Mzansi in confusion following the announcement of his joining Jacob Zuma’s Mkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

Outside of the four walls of social media, Darren is an entrepreneur and Business Administration graduate as reported by IOL. However, Mzansi is more concerned with Darren’s on-screen presence and persona, as it echoes the sentiment of many middle and lower-class citizens who often feel voiceless in the grander scheme of things.

Darren used his platform to shine a light on the importance of the elections and went as far as breaking down some of the manifestos the political parties were pushing. This noble action led to more and more support for Darren as many felt that he was doing important work of equipping people from the ground up with the knowledge they would need going into elections.

Darren’s recent sit-down with popular podcaster Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh left many scratching their heads after he revealed that he will be joining the MK party as part of their research department. During this interview, Darren revealed how he came to join the controversial party which he says took a considerable amount of thought and research.

According to Darren, MK had approached him prior to the elections taking place but due to his uncertainty of the party’s dynamics, structure and plans for the future, he opted against joining. However, upon watching things play out, Darren feels as though he and MK have mutual interests and could mutually benefit from each other.

“In meeting with the leadership I made the leadership aware of what they were getting when they got me… lots of people might watch this and feel like I’m stepping away from my personal ideology and in reality for me, I’m not,” he tells Sizwe

Darren’s critics did not take kindly to this decision as they highlighted Darren’s hypocrisy in multiple cases. Among other things, users have noted Darren’s hypocrisy as an advocate against GBV and supporting Jacob Zuma while he has known rape allegations against him.

Other users credit this move to greed and the need for wealth and power.
