Since its inception in 1996, SABC 1 has been responsible for providing quality and accessible entertainment to the South African population. Whether your interests are in educational or musical shows, or you’re a movie and series enthusiast, the channel prioritises diversity in the shows they provide. ‘Dichipi’, a show by Jikizinto is set to take the channel by storm as it is set to premier this Thursday.

According to the SABC 1 site, Dichipi is a show set in Soshanguve, “follows three unlikely friends who rely on each other after a chaotic night that places the future of their community centre in jeopardy. This pivotal event thrusts them into a journey of self-discovery and collective and individual growth as they strive to save the centre from closure caused by their actions.”

The show explores significant themes that speak to Mzansi’s realities, such as sex, mental health, love, identity and managing family as well as social relationships and does so through the lens of relatable characters.

The show is set to feature new faces and talents such as Nkateko Mabunda as Nthabiseng, Azande Mkhungo as Mpume, Lesego Jacobs as Lorcia, Lauren Smit as Grace, Vanessa Swart as Yvette, Jason Willemse as Mechanic Bae and Keenan Angelo Arrison as Anton. These characters come together to take you through a range of emotions, focusing on what young people in Mzansi go through.

“Aimed at inspiring and equipping young people to make informed life choices, Jik’iZinto is co-created with South African youth and backed by Girl Effect, an international non-profit organization. The brand offers a holistic approach that connects with young people where they are, leveraging music, multimedia content, and accessible digital platforms to provide vital information on topics like mental health, relationships, sexual and reproductive health, and career guidance.”
