Stellenbosch FC attacker Devin Titus will replace Mihlali Mayambela in the Bafana Bafana squad for the two upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifying matches.
Bafana will face Uganda on the 15th of November 2024, away from home, and clash with South Sudan at the DHL Stadium, Cape Town, on the 19th of November 2024.
South African players reported for camp on Monday, 11 November to prepare for the Uganda and South Sudan games that could see the team qualify for the 2025 AFCON showpiece in Morocco next year.
In their quest to qualify for AFCON, Bafana will be without the services of Mayambela, who sustained an injury at his Cypriot club Aris Limassol this past weekend. The pacey winger has been a regular feature in Hugo Broos’ side since taking over the coaching role in 2021.
Mihlali Mayambela was pivotal for Bafana when they won a bronze medal in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast earlier this year. Titus, who has been in top form at his club – Stellenbosch, will replace the 28-year-old in attack at Bafana.
Titus featured in 17 matches across all competitions since the start of the 2024/25 season. He scored three goals and provided two assists.
DEVIN TITUS ON THE WAY TO JOIN BAFANA IN JOHANNESBURG
SAFA has confirmed that Titus is already on his way to Johannesburg to join his teammates at training in Dobsonville Stadium.
“Unfortunately, Mayambela will not join us in camp, and he will be replaced by Devin Titus from Stellenbosch FC,” Broos told SAFA media.
Titus is joining his Stellenbosch teammates Fawaaz Basadien and Sage Stephens in national team colours.
On the other hand, another Stellenbosch midfielder, Jayden Adams, is missing from the squad after a fallout with Broos in the previous FIFA break.
Adams was part of the preliminary squad; however, he didn’t make the cut for the final 23-man squad.
