DEFENCE LAWYER IN SENZO MEYIWA TRIAL THULANI MNGOMEZULU HAS DIED

Mngomezulu joined the matter in October 2023 during the trial within the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, and represented accused 1 Muzi Sibiya and accused 2 Bongani Ntanzi.

Mngomezulu was due to start cross examining lead investigating officer, Bongani Gininda. In November, he told the court that he was not in a position to cross examine Gininda and made a request for his cross examination to be postponed, eNCA reported.

According to Sunday World, the last time Mngomezulu was in court was on 22 October, and he was wearing a face mask. He also had a fan next to him to help him feel better on the day.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are on trial for Meyiwa’s murder.

They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. They all pleaded not guilty.

Meyiwa was shot and killed at the home of his then-girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, on 26 October 2014. Kelly’s sister Zandile and Meyiwa’s close friends Mthokozisi Twala and Tumelo Madlala were among the eyewitnesses and have also testified in the ongoing trial.
