TV and radio presenter, Dante Poole, is feeling grateful that his hard work is being recognised in the entertainment industry- after bagging his first-ever South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) nomination.

DANTE CELEBRATES HIS FIRST AWARD NOMINATION

The 26-year-old Cape Town-born presenter is nominated for Best Television Presenter for his contribution to the popular SABC2 show Hectic Nine-9.

Dante became a household name after landing his big break as a presenter on S3’s popular show ‘Hectic On 3‘ at the age of 19. Following the show’s production hiatus, he landed a new gig as the host for the 17th season of Hectic Nine-9.

Now, he has scored a SAFTA award nomination and he says that this nomination means a great deal to him as it signifies that he is being recognised for his talent.

“I am truly honoured and grateful to be recognised by the industry and the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).

This is my first-ever nomination, and I find it both overwhelming and exciting. For me, this nomination serves as a reminder that while awards are not everything, they affirm that I am on the right path and I am doing well in my craft,” says Poole.

DANTE ON BEING NOMINATED AGAINST HEAVYWEIGHTS IN THE INDUSTRY

The KFM presenter is nominated against several talented SA presenters including Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Chonco, Jolene Martins, Emo Adams, Nomalanga Shozi, Devi Sankaree Govender, Emihle Mimi Rey, Kuhle Adams, Mpho Modikoane, and Govern Albert Whittles.

“I feel honored. These are people I grew up watching; some are new to the industry, but it’s lovely to see how far they have come,” he says.

EXPLORING HOPES NEW OPPORTUNITIES

The vibrant presenter says he hopes this nomination will open the right doors for him.

“I hope this nomination will help me gain access to the rooms where I want to be. I don’t necessarily need to land a gig right away, but I want to be given the opportunity to showcase my talent. Sometimes in this industry, all you really want is a chance.

“I want to be in the room so I can explain why I might be a good fit. I want people to see my potential and make their own decisions. A seat at the table is all I want,” he adds.

HE IS READY TO SPREAD HIS WINGS

He adds that his dream is to branch out into acting, host a lifestyle show, and have his own radio show.

“I want to be a lifestyle presenter; host talk shows and elevate my radio career by hosting my own radio show.

“Additionally, people may not know that I also act and audition for various roles. I’m waiting for my big break in acting because I’ve always had a passion for it.

“For now, my main focus is on presenting and riding the wave of my current nomination. As for the impact of this nomination, I believe it could open doors to future projects and enhance my career overall,” says Poole.

HE’S GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT FROM HIS PARENTS

The presenter says he’s grateful to have supportive parents in a cutthroat industry where things change and gigs are not consistent.

“They have been consistent since the beginning and they recognise my potential. Sometimes you get discouraged in this industry, but my parents remind me that I am talented. They would even sleep or wait in the car while I am doing auditions. They are incredible.”

He encourages those interested in the media industry to pursue it for the right reasons and out of genuine passion.

“It’s important to be clear about your goals to avoid getting distracted by the industry’s glamour,” he says.

The 18th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) will be held over two evenings. The Craft show, celebrating the technical talents in film and TV, will be streamed live on the SAFTAs YouTube channel and various social media platforms on October 25, 2024.
