Former EFF National Chairperson Advocate Dali Mpofu has denied claims that he joined the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) to destroy the Economic Freedom Fighters.

Speaking at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday during MKP’s first anniversary celebration, Mpofu said his decision to join the party was his personal choice.

“I never said that by joining MKP I want to collapse the EFF. In fact, personally I joined MKP as part of my rights of which I would have joined the Freedom Front Plus or the DA if I wanted since it is the right of association we fought for,” said Mpofu.

Mpofu added that he believes MKP is a good platform to fight for the rights of poor black people.

The anniversary celebration saw large crowds arriving early, with excitement peaking when MKP leader Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane, made a dramatic entrance. Women screamed as Duduzane, wearing an MKP T-shirt reading “Gwaza Njalo,” mingled with the crowd, hugging supporters and taking selfies.

The party has accused the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) of sabotage after their request for 35 trains to transport attendees was rejected.

MKP spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela said they had agreed to pay R1.1 million for the trains before the booking was canceled.

Former President Jacob Zuma is expected to address the event later in the day.
