Could veteran Thulani Hlatshwayo leave SuperSport United?

Thulani Hlatshwayo could be on his way out of SuperSport United at the end of the current season. The veteran defender’s contract expires at the end of the campaign, and it remains uncertain whether it will be renewed or not.

Tyson has appeared in eight matches in the Betway Premiership this season, totalling 720 minutes. He made one appearance in the MTN 8, as SuperSport United was eliminated by Orlando Pirates in the first round.

Thulani Hlatshwayo Playing to Win a Contract

As he approaches the final months of his tenure at the club, Thulani Hlatshwayo hopes to impress the management of SuperSport United and extend his current contract.

“For now, it’s quiet and there have been no talks yet between Tyson and the club. Maybe there might be a position for him after he retires, but I’m not sure about the playing side of things,” a source revealed to Phakaaathi.

“Things change quickly in football, but he’s not young anymore, and you never know which direction the club wants to take. There might be a new coach coming in, and he might have his own ideas, so we’ll see at the end of the season because injuries will also play a role in how things go.” The source confirmed.

Thulani Hlatshwayo is 35 years old and will turn 36 in December. His age and fitness will be considerations for Matsatsantsa.

SuperSport Do Not Have Many Defensive Reinforcements

If Thulani Hlatshwayo leaves the club at the end of the season, Matsatsantsa will need to work on adding players in the centre-back position. This is due to the fact that the club currently lacks a wealth of defensive options.

The club currently has three dedicated defenders on their roster: Thulani Hlatshwayo, Pogiso Sanoka, and Bilal Baloi. If Tyson departs, they will need to seek reinforcements.

Do you believe SuperSport United should grant Thulani Hlatshwayo a contract extension, or would it be more prudent for them to seek younger players?
