Magesi FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has shared insights into how he has refined his time-wasting tactics in recent seasons.
The Zimbabwean shot-stopper was speaking after his side won the Carling Knockout Cup trophy, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the final.
The 34-year-old played a pivotal role, delivering a spectacular performance to propel Dikwena tša Meetse to the league cup success.
The former Baroka FC goalie was recognised as the Man of the Match, his fourth award in the competition. Each accolade carried an R100,000 prize, totalling R400,000 in prize money.
As usual, Chipezeze employed time-wasting tactics to try and frustrate the opponents when the score was 1-1 and after Magesi had scored the second goal.
When asked about his approach to this at the press conference, he explained that his tactics have evolved over the years.
He admitted that a few years ago, he would often go down unnecessarily, even when there was no contact with an opponent.
He explained that now he only resorts to time-wasting when there’s actual contact, no matter how minor.
CHIPEZEZE BELIEVES HIS APPROACH ON TIME-WASTING IS MATURE
“You can see also, if we check with the games I’ve been playing, it’s not like maybe in 2018, when I was still not mature enough,” said Chipezeze.
“But now, you can see there is contact also. So if there is contact, you have to tell them.
“Now I’m changed now; you can also see for yourselves. But that change is also going to be there.”
Chipezeze reiterated his intention to continue to delay time, as he considers this a valuable tool for his team’s success.
“And I like it like that, every time; it’s nice for people to be told that there is football banter at the end of the day, and if it makes the fans happy, we’ll just continue doing that,” he added.
