Chiefs and Pirates to pounce on PSL top star after ‘failed’ move to Europe?

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs could look to pounce on SuperSport United defender Ime Okon.

The 21-year-old opted to stay with Matsatsantsa despite a successful trial in January with Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv.

SuperSport United chief executive officer Stan Matthews revealed that three other teams were interested in his defender.

Chiefs and Pirates might look to sign Okon

“Yes, Kyiv are still keen on Ime, but he has rejected the move for now,” Matthews told FARPost.

“We have interest from 3 other European clubs – I can’t reveal names for now. But we have agreed with Ime to pursue these options in July while we focus on our end-of-season results.

“He has, meanwhile, extended his agreement with us by a further year with a fair international buyout clause effective July 2025. We don’t anticipate Ime playing for us next season.”

Okon has already rejected a move to Europe, but it remains to be seen if he would turn down a move to either Chiefs or Pirates. Amakhosi are in need of a quality centre-back and Okon might be the man worth spending money on.

SuperSport likely to want an offer from overseas than from Chiefs or Pirates

Matsatsantsa are more likely to sell their top defender next season and Matthews would likely want to see the 21-year-old in Europe. On the business side of things, the club’s ceo also knows he might get more than R20 million from the player from Europeans clubs.

Which club should sign Okon?
