The controversial case of Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina has been chaotic as South Africans and the rest of the world have followed it since its inception when she was a Miss South Africa contestant. It has recently been revealed that the Department of Home Affairs is set to cancel Chidimma’s ID and travel documents, however, mzansi suspects something is amiss.
It has been months since the Department of Home Affairs revealed that they discovered potential prima facie evidence linked to the case of the woman known as Chidima’s mother. Since then, Chidimma has participated in and won the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant and is currently representing the country at the renowned Miss Universe pageant in Mexico.
South Africans initially questioned how Chidimma and her mother were allowed to travel to Nigeria and Mexico while the matter of their identity remained unsolved. The Department of Home Affairs has revealed that they will cancel Chidimma and her mother’s ID and travel documents after both reportedly failed to explain to the department why they should keep their citizenship.
Although this update has been long awaited, some South Africans have raised concerns about the timing of everything, as the Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber was recently exposed for jumping the gun and announcing a deal between Ukraine and South Africa before it was officially finalised by both parties.
“It is unclear how the minister can announce the signature of an international agreement without prior formal authorisation to do so,” was the response given by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Vincent Magwenya after Minister Leon’s revelation.
Some South Africans have highlighted the convenience of breaking news about the Chidimma case in order to overshadow the minister’s blunder and undermining of the President and the Government of National Unity (GNU) at large.

The opposition to the DA’s minister Leon’s appointment to office has grown significantly, with some citizens going as far as calling for his resignation or termination, citing that he does not have the best interests of South Africans, particularly of colour at heart.
The worst thing about this GNU was giving Home Affairs to the DA. Leon Schreiber is reckless, arrogant & putting the country into disrepute. He must be fired.
