Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria and first runner-up at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant has announced she will not participate in beauty pageants for now to focus on her education and personal growth.

Speaking to BBC Pidgin upon her return to Nigeria, the 23-year-old revealed plans to explore runways, acting, and other ventures to realise her full potential.

“I am putting pageant to bed. I’m going to focus more on my education and establishing who Chidimma is. More into runways. So many things I would like to touch on and see where my potential can go to.

“I’m glad it’s all done so I can focus on myself and my mental health. I think that’s important for me,” she said.

Chidimma competed against 125 contestants in the 73rd Miss Universe pageant held at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on November 16, 2024.

Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjr Theilvig, won the title, while Chidimma was named the Miss Universe Africa and Oceania continental queen.

In a separate interview, she reiterated her decision, attributing it to the challenges and emotional strain she faced during the journey.

“It is permanent. I have decided I’m no longer going to do pageants. I feel like I did my best. I made myself proud. I made Nigeria proud, and I outdid myself. I don’t think there’s anything more I could do. It was a traumatic experience for me, and I don’t think I would like to revisit this again. It’s something I’m going to have to put behind me, but it’s also something I hold in my heart,” Chidimma said.
