Cape Town welcomes two Springbok matches in 2025

Capetonians are in for a treat as SA Rugby recently announced that yet another one of its Springbok matches will be played in the Mother City.

Following a successful match against New Zealand in last year’s Rugby Championship, Capetonians will once again be treated to two more international games in 2025.

The men in green and gold will kick off their international season with a match against the Barbarians at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town. This will be the first time that an invitational international match will be held on home soil.

The Babarians team consists of players from various parts of the world who have joined together through invitation. The team is renowned for playing in black and white hoops and has been an important part of the legacy of the game.

The last time the Boks played against the British invitational team was in 2016, with the final score being 31-31 at Wembley Stadium in London.

While this match will provide the perfect opportunity for coach Rassie and his staff to test some of the team’s new talent, it won’t be the only one that Cape Town fans can look forward to.

Later this year, the city will also be hosting another one of our rugby rivals in the form of Australia in this year’s Rugby Championship. The World Champions will be eager to repeat the success of last year, by beating their counterparts on home soil just as they did a year ago on tour.

Earlier this year the Rassie invited 56 players to participate in his alignment camp, while adding 26 players to the virtual camp. With all this talent now being groomed and mentored, the Baabaas match might be part of his vision to mix youth with experience ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Meanwhile, tickets for the Barbarians game will go on sale from Tuesday, 6 May, on Ticketmaster.
