Cape Town suburbs to face nine-hour water outage

The City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will perform planned maintenance from Tuesday, 1 April, resulting in water supply interruption.

Residents in affected areas are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure and prepare accordingly.

PARTS OF CAPE TOWN TO EXPERIENCE A WATER OUTAGE

The metro municipality said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Somerset Ridge, Westridge, and Garden Village (Somerset West) – The water supply to these areas will be shut off temporarily from 9:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday, 1 April. This will enable the safe installation of a control valve on the corner of Disa Street and West Street in Westridge. The water supply, in this instance, unfortunately has to be shut off at the reservoir and this new valve will reduce the impacted area during future shut-offs.

Simon’s Town– The water supply to a large part of Simon’s Town will be shut off temporarily from 8:00 until 17:00 on Wednesday, 2 April. This will enable the safe connection of the newly installed water pipelines along Wickboom Lane, Thomas Street, Water Lane, and Rickett’s Close to the existing water supply infrastructure.

PLANNED CRITICAL ELECTRICITY MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED FOR APRIL

Apart from the water outage mentioned above, the City of Cape Town electricity and generation teams will carry out essential electricity infrastructure maintenance over four weeks in Surrey Estate and Heideveld from 1 April.

The maintenance work which will be carried out over four weeks on 1, 9, 24, and 30 April from 8:30 to 16:00, if all goes to plan, will result in electricity supply interruptions.

The City of Cape Town said it is important to note that interruptions to the electricity supply will only impact the highlighted areas on the maps and only on the relevant date.
