Cape Independence has responded to President Cyril Ramaphosa after he criticised the group’s planned trip to the United States.

Vincent Magwenya, spokesperson for the Presidency, said that the group (Cape Independence) does not align with the country’s constitutional values of social cohesion and equality.

“There is no part of our beautiful land that can be allowed to secede. The president cautions everyone to exercise his or her constitutional rights but to do so in the manner that does not undermine or subvert constitutional democracy in SA. We should all be actively engaged in building a better SA in the face of unpredictable geopolitical dynamic,” he said on Thursday.

On X (Twitter), Cape Independence stated that if Ramaphosa had focused on building a non-racial country, the group would not have been formed.

“The President’s response to us is deeply ironical. If Ramaphosa and the ANC had focused on nation-building and non-racialism, there wouldn’t be a Cape Independence movement. They didn’t, and now there is.”

This week, the Cape Independence Advocacy Group (CIAG) wrote to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and the Premier of the Western Cape to inform them of their intention to send a delegation to Washington, D.C. to meet with US officials.

Cape Independence alerts Ramaphosa on US trip

The purpose of this planned trip is to advocate for the secession of the Western Cape from South Africa. The group said its purpose was to rescue the Western Cape from the African National Congress (ANC).

“We are trying to rescue the WC from the ANC, not sell it to anyone. Cape Independence will put the WC people in charge of their own destiny,” the group tweeted.

Do you think Western Cape should be allowed to be excluded from SA?
