Marumo Gallants are battling to remain in the Betway Premiership this season. They currently sit in 14th place on the league table, one position and one point ahead of SuperSport United.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa are also through to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup, where they will encounter Orlando Pirates. Despite this cup run, the primary focus for Marumo Gallants remains on maintaining their Betway Premiership status.
Abdeslam Ouaddou The Man Tasked with Saving Marumo Gallants
The Moroccan was brought in to replace Dan Malesela, who was dismissed, along with Molefi Ntseki, earlier this season. In his first few matches, Ouaddou has secured victories against Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City, although he also suffered a defeat to Stellenbosch FC.
Abdeslam Ouaddou is confident about keeping Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership.
“Every game is important. We will fight until the end, and like I said, we will not throw away the weapons,” he told members of the media.
“We will continue to fight until the end. We can save the club until the last minute of the last game. So, we must believe that. But I feel that we can.” He stated.
Marumo Gallants have played one additional match compared to SuperSport United, who are positioned below them in the league table.
Should They Prioritise the Nedbank Cup or League Survival?
Marumo Gallants have faced similar challenges in the past, having to balance both the league and a cup competition.
In the 2022/2023 season, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa reached the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they were defeated by the Tanzanian team Young Africans. During the same campaign, they were relegated from the league.
Marumo Gallants were unable to translate their continental performance into domestic success, which ultimately contributed to their downfall in the league.
Considering this history, should Marumo Gallants prioritise the Betway Premiership, or should they aim to defy the odds and seize all the glory in the Nedbank Cup, where they will compete against Orlando Pirates?
