The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has condemned the brutal murder of Ekuthuleni Primary School principal in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein in the Western Cape.

The 54-year-old man was killed in a hail of bullets as he drove into the school on Thursday morning while a woman he was with in the car sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital.

EFF CONDEMNS MURDER OF WESTERN CAPE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Three suspects allegedly approached the principal’s car and fired several shots and fled in an unknown vehicle. Sadly, the principal was declared dead on scene.

The EFF said while the motive for the shooting remains unclear, the fact that violence unfolded on a school premise is totally unacceptable as schools should be sanctuaries of safety, learning and growth where children can thrive without fear.

The party said the tragic reality is that instead of being a safe haven, schools have now become crime hotspots. To make matters worse, in this case, the horrifying sight of violence was witnessed by young children who have just returned to school.

“The DA-led Western Cape government has consistently shown disregard for the safety of people in communities. Their failure to address the escalating crime, particularly in the townships of Cape Town is a testament to their neglect,” the party said.

“We demand an immediate and thorough investigation into this incident, along with an urgent and comprehensive strategy to tackle the growing crisis of crime in our communities,” the party added.

Meawhile, Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier has offered his condolences to the school principal’s loved ones.

“Our district team is on the ground at the school to offer support to the staff and learners today and in the coming days. We trust that the SAPS will leave no stone unturned in locating and apprehending the perpetrators,” the MEC said.
