Bonang Matheba complains about scammers in Joburg
Bonang Matheba has sounded the alarm on the growing number of scammers operating in Johannesburg.
The media personality and businesswoman didn’t mince her words as she took to social media to share her frustrations and urge the public to remain alert.
The TV star, who admitted she couldn’t even recognize an e-hailing service that wasn’t Uber, warned that scammers are now lurking everywhere and that no one should assume safety just because someone seems trustworthy.
“JHB scammers. Boys, girls. Eer’body,” Bonang posted.

Her post quickly resonated with many, prompting a flood of responses from social media users who shared their own experiences of being scammed in the city.
From fake tutors to slick pickpockets, the stories revealed just how creative and bold some scammers have become.
One user wrote, “Honestly, this is probably why I’ve stayed indoors since moving here. And it’s people you think are genuine, kanti they are shameless Jo’annes.”
Another shared, “I got scammed by someone pretending to be a tutor, I don’t think I’ll ever heal.”
One particularly alarming account came from someone who thought they were dealing with a legitimate consultant: “Got scammed by a whole professional consultant. I paid the lady to help me register for NCR, and it never happened. Her consultancy: Bonmas Consulting.”
A chilling comment came from someone who lost their phone in broad daylight: “Got bumped by an old man while walking downtown. I apologised, thinking it’s an old person, we were taught to take care of such people. Till today, I don’t know how he took my phone out of my pocket. When I realised my pocket was feeling lighter, I looked back, he was gone.”
