Bokomo discontinues SA’s favourite childhood breakfast after 50 years

Bokomo has confirmed that their Maltabella malted sorghum porridge has been discontinued.

The popular breakfast, Maltabella was a favourite South African porridge for over 50 years before it was recently discontinued.

The brand revealed to The South African on Friday, 22 November: “Thank you for reaching out to us. Kindly note the product is discontinued due to marketing and sales purposes.”

Social media user @AsiphekeWithSiphesihleTheGift said on Facebook on Thursday, 21 November: “I can’t breathe. My favorite porridge has been discontinued. I grew up eating Maltabella. It has so many health benefits, how can Bokomo do this to us guys?”

Two weeks ago, I went to food lovers, and I found 4 boxes. I honestly took all of them cos my baby loves it so much. I’m so sad that I won’t find it again.”
