Big Brother Mzansi recently hosted a media launch at Multichoice City in Randburg to introduce the fifth season and announce its premiere date next year.

With the theme Umlilo loosely translated to fire, the highly anticipated reality show is set to premiere on the 12th of January at 6 pm on Mzansi Magic.

Big Brother Mzansi known for twists, Friday night games, Saturday parties and a list of head of household (HOH) challenges always keeps its viewers glued to their screens, and this season promises to be a fire season that will captivate and entertain fans.

Among the attendees were former Big Brother Mzansi housemates, Yolanda Monyai, Tshepo ‘Makhekhe’ Tau, Zintle ‘Zee’ Mofokeng, Sinaye Kotobe and Mishack ‘Mich’ Mazibuko as the DJ.

Big Brother took to their X (formerly Twitter) to share a brief extract of the launch.

Seasoned TV and radio presenter, Afrika Mdutyulwa renowned for presenting on YFM, 5FM and Massive Music will officially take over the reins from Lawrence Maleka as a host.

Director of local entertainment channels, Shirley Adonisi said, the new season will be something never done on TV before.

“The theme is in line with what people can expect. We’re about breaking boundaries and taking people out of their comfort zone. This format is the perfect pressure cooker to put people in. There are so many interpretations of the word Umlilo (fire). We’re experimenting with things never done before.

“We’re determined to make them as uncomfortable as possible. We’re really pushing the envelope. We’ll test their intolerance to see how much they can take without breaking any legal rules,” said Shirley.

Eager to see if Big Brother Mzansi: Umlilo will follow the theme, X users shared their excitement.
