Bheki Cele spotted in public amid 'threats' [video]

Former Minister of Police Bheki Cele has been spotted casually out and about, despite recently claiming he was receiving “a lot of threats”.

The controversial public figure stepped down from his position in July last year following the national elections.

The 72-year-old is now enjoying his retirement.

BHEKI CELE SPOTTED OUT AND ABOUT

In a TikTok video, a jovial-looking Bheki Cele was spotted walking along the pavement in a popular section of the Umhlanga Village.

“He Cele,” the woman behind the camera called out.

The former Minister of Police – wearing a casual weekend look, complete with his trademark fedora – smiled and waved back.

The video comes a few weeks after Bheki Cele was spotted in the queue at a Chicken Licken restaurant.

On both occasions, the retired minister was seen on his own.

Bheki was also seen at the recent ANC birthday celebrations in Cape Town. In another viral video, he was filmed dancing with his wife, Thembeka Ngcobo.

DEATH THREATS, HOUSE BREAK-IN

While Bheki Cele appears to be enjoying his retirement, he recently told the SABC that he had received many threats since stepping down.

This includes his claims that he’s been followed on multiple occasions and had a recent home burglary.

He said: “I have reported some incidents to the police. I’ve seen the cars that were following me, and I’ve especially reported this to the provincial commissioner. He sent people to the house at about 1am because there was a break-in. They took some items from the house”.

In typical Bheki Cele style, he added: “I’m scared of nobody, not just now but even when I was a minister.

“This is not a job for roses or flowers; it comes with the package of the job. Going forward, we have to be prepared for those of us in the security space, but for some of us, we are fine.”
