Bakwena to launch contactless payments on N1N4 route in 2025

From 1 June 2025, Bakwena will upgrade to contactless card payments on the N1N4 route, enhancing security and reducing fraudulent toll transactions.

Fraudsters

This upgrade will enable real-time payments thereby reducing the risk of stolen debit or credit cards being used by fraudsters at toll plazas.

Contactless payments ensures that cards remain in the possession of its owner during payment.

In the meantime, Bakwena will continue to accept credit and fleet card magstripe payments as well as cash and Sanral tag payment methods at Bakwena toll plazas.

Note that no debit cards are accepted.
