Mamelodi Sundowns have facilitated the transfer of one of their Bafana Bafana stars in the January transfer window.
Sundowns already have a plethora of players capped by Bafana some more recent then others, yet internationals still.
De Reuck set to join Maccabi Petah Tikva
One of those internationals being centre-back Rushine de Reuck. After struggling with injuries and limited game time, SABC Sport have reported that he has left for Israel on loan. There he will join up with topflight side Maccabi Petah Tikva.
“SABC Sport can confirm that Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine De Reuck will move to the Israeli Premier League on a loan deal. It’s understood De Reuck has agreed to play for Maccabi Petah Tikva for the remainder of the season, with the deal up for review in July. The transfer will not only potentially give the centre-back, who is represented by Siyavuma Sports Group, regular game-time elsewhere, but also open the European door. With injuries having stalled his progress, along with some additions to the squad, the defender has not seen that many minutes at Chloorkop in recent seasons. In his press conference on Thursday, Downs coach Miguel Cardoso confirmed they will be looking to find options abroad for players who’ve not featured frequently.” Wrote their website.
Struggled for game time at Sundowns recently
De Reuck joined Sundowns under Pitso Mosimane from Maritzburg United and immediately won the league. He would go on to be a prominent figure in the team as well as an integral part of the Bafana Bafana set up under coach Hugo Broos. He formed part of the defence that didn’t concede a goal in open play during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
A string of injuries have since seen him fall down the pecking order at Sundowns. Now with his contract up at the end of the season, an exited was mooted. Masandawana, should the club have let de Reuck go, play regular football for 6 months at Maccabi Petah Takiva? Or did you need him until the end of the season at least?
