Bafana Bafana will take on Uganda this week to secure their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations.

South Africa are in second place in Group K with eight points, just two behind group leaders Uganda (10 points). Bafana faces Uganda away from home on 15 November 2024 and South Sudan at DHL Stadium on 19 November in Cape Town.

Hugo Broos’ men are just a win away from securing qualification but that all depends on the Congo/South Sudan match. If Congo Brazzaville fails to beat Sudan, Bafana will qualify for the tournament before their match with The Cranes.

If Congo wins, it will put them a point behind South Africa with one match to play. A win will put some pressure off SA, who need to win atleast one of their last two qualifiers.

Bafana one door into Afcon but Uganda can disrupt their progress

Bafana will be without Mihlali Mayambela, who was withdrawn from the squad after he picked up an injury while playing for his Cypriot club Aris Limassol.

“Unfortunately, Mayambela will not join us in camp, and he will be replaced by Devin Titus from Stellenbosch FC,” Broos said on Monday.

The Belgian coach has called Devin Titus are cover ahead of Bafana’s two crucial matches against Uganda and South Sudan. The team assembles in Johannesburg on Monday and will begin training ahead of the away qualifier against Uganda. They will travel by charter on Thursday morning and return to South Africa on Saturday, 16 November.

Uganda and Bafana Bafana played each other in September with the match ending 2-2 in Orlando. On Friday, both teams will face off in Kampala at 15:00.
