Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo brought a touch of Oz to CinemaCon 2025, giving audiences an exclusive first look at Wicked: For Good.
THE ‘WICKED: FOR GOOD’ TEASER
The dynamic duo arrived with director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt. They teased the highly anticipated sequel at Caesar’s Palace, leaving fans buzzing.
The full trailer remains under wraps for the general public, according to Daily Mail.
However, those in attendance were treated to glimpses of iconic scenes and snippets of beloved songs like For Good and No Good Deed.
GLINDA AND ELPHABA
The teaser trailer starts with Glinda (Grande) calling out for Elphaba (Erivo) in Emerald City. “Elphaba, I know you’re here. Just come out before the monkeys spot you.”
Elphaba’s defiant response, “This is between us, the wizard and I,” sets the stage for a showdown.
She even uses her broom to scrawl “Our Wizard Lies” across the sky, a bold declaration that is sure to shake things up.
Adding to the intrigue, the trailer offered a quick peek at Glinda’s wedding to Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), according to Variety.
A DARKER TONE
A glimpse of Dorothy and the famed yellow brick road is also featured.
There was also a moment of tenderness between Glinda and Elphaba. “You’re the only friend I’ve ever had,” and Glinda responds, “And I’ve had so many friends.
But you’re the only one that mattered.”
Jeff Goldblum, as the Wizard, thundered, “Bring me the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West!”
The teaser concluded with Elphaba grabbing her hat and broomstick, declaring, “I’m off to see the wizard!” Chu hinted at a darker, more mature tone for the sequel.
ARIANE GRANDE AND ERIVO TAKE TO THE STAGE
“If Part 1 is about choices, Part 2 is about consequences,” he explained. He also added, “There’s a lot of soul searching in movie 2.
They’re asking, ‘Is this the right decision that you made?’”
Erivo had previously teased a bit more of what the audience can expect. “I think you can expect a little bit of spice in the second part because they’ve grown up a little bit.”
Grande and Erivo took to the stage in black ensembles, perhaps a nod to the film’s deeper themes, according to The Wrap.
WICKED’S LEGACY
Grande shone in a strapless black minidress, while Cynthia Erivo opted for loose-fitting black trousers and a hooded top.
Reflecting on the musical’s enduring popularity, Marc Platt noted, “Wicked, in its 22nd year on Broadway, is having its best year and highest grosses ever.”
Wicked: For Good is slated to hit cinemas on 21 November, a year after the first instalment.
