Intensifying talks of impeaching Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa are allegedly causing panic in the president’s inner circle.

According to ZimEye, there are mounting signs that some disgruntled ZANU PF members are mobilising for a potential impeachment bid.

Impeachment is a process of laying charges against the President by the Legislature, which may or may not result in the removal of the President from office by Parliament, according to advocate Method Ndlovu.

A Push To Impeach President Mnangagwa

A few days after Zimbabwe’s infamous 31 March protests, war veteran Blessed ‘Bombshell’ Geza announced a plan to table Mnangagwa’s impeachment. Geza claimed that the president has dementia, which has affected his capacity to govern.

“We’re impeaching Emmerson Mnangagwa on the grounds that he is no longer mentally fit to lead the country,” Geza claimed in the YouTube video. “Mnangagwa is suffering from vascular dementia. We got copies of these medical results. His doctors have already told him and his family is aware…”

Is Mnangagwa’s Camp panicking?

One of Mnangagwa’s defenders, Justice Ziyambi Ziyambi, has warned party members against entertaining ‘outside forces’ that are seeking to unsettle the president. According to ZimEye, Ziyambi appears visibly rattled by the intensifying impeachment talks.

“This talk of impeachment is nothing more than a continuation of failed protests,” Ziyambi said. He spoke during a ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Chegutu on Saturday.

“Now they are panicking and fantasising about Parliament initiating impeachment. But in Zimbabwe, we have a party-based system. There is no space for individual grandstanding in Parliament, members follow the party line.”

Ziyambi also warned that members of parliament who deviate from the party’s official position face immediate consequences. “If you think you are bigger than the party, you will be thrown out. Zanu PF is a pocket big enough to fit everyone, but you can’t fit it into your pocket; it will burn you,” he said.
