ANC snatches municipal seat from DA

The African National Congress (ANC) has snatched a municipal seat previously won by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the !Kheis Municipality in Northern Cape.

The ANC emerged victorious in by-elections that were held in the Northern Cape and Eastern Cape on Wednesday, 9, October.

ANC WINS MUNICIPAL SEAT PREVIOUSLY WON BY THE DA

The ANC won the seat by 57.79%, compared to the 49.31% the DA garnered in the 2021 local government elections.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said the achievement highlights the dedication and hard work of their structures and volunteers, ensuring a decisive majority in the municipality.

Bhengu-Motsiri said the former ruling party remains the primary force capable of reclaiming lost ground and delivering meaningful change to communities across the country.

“We urge all ANC branches to continue intensifying their efforts in communities as we prepare for the next round of by-elections and most importantly, the 2026 local government elections. The ANC will continue to work hard in securing an overwhelming mandate of the people,” she said.

Apart from the decisive victory in !Kheis municipality, the party also retained three wards in the Eastern Cape, namely ward 12 and 20 in Buffalo City and ward 15 in Chris Hani Municipality.
