The African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA) and Patriotic Alliance (PA) have condemned the behaviour of SABC employee Nobuntu Mkhize after she made racist remarks while on a FlySafair flight.

She was filmed arguing with flight attendants while demanding a drink.

In a video, she directed racist comments towards the Coloured community.

She said, “You are a Coloured from Mitchells Plain, all these gold rings but no degree. Right now, when we land, I’m going to take an Uber home. You don’t even have a driver’s licence. You don’t even have a car.”

Mkhize is the daughter of the late journalist and liberation icon Khaba Mkhize.

In a circulating video on social media, she can be heard screaming and shouting at the staff, telling them who her father was.

She said, “You don’t know who my father is…I am an ANC b***.”

DA LAYS CHARGE OF CRIMEN INJURIA AGAINST MKHIZE

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has laid a charge of crimen injuria against Mkhize after she made racist remarks towards a coloured flight attendant. DA Western Cape Leader Tertuis Alfred Simmers and Subcouncil 15 Chairperson Angus McKenzie were joined by the flight attendant to lay a charge at the Bishop Lavis police station.

PA TO LODGE FORMAL COMPLAINT

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) is planning to lodge a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) after Mkhize’s behaviour showed racism towards the coloured community.

The Deputy President of the party, Kenny Kunene, said that the offensive statements that targeted members of the coloured community and her other disparaging remarks undermine the spirit of unity, dignity and respect that the Constitution seeks to uphold.

“Racism, irrespective of its source, has no place in South Africa. As a nation that has endured the scars of racial injustice, we must remain vigilant in rejecting all forms of discrimination. No individual, regardless of their position or background, is above the law,” he expressed.

He also conveyed how Mkhize’s behaviour did not align with the work of her late father, who was a liberation icon that fought against inequality and injustice in South Africa.

ANC INITIATES INVESTIGATION INTO MKHIZE’S MEMBERSHIP

The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed its dissatisfaction towards the behaviour of Mkhize, who invoked the name of the party to justify her actions.

National Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said that the ANC is distancing itself from behaviour that devalues the principles of the party’s movement and they are currently reviewing her membership.

“We have initiated an investigation into her membership status. However, even if it is confirmed that she is a member, her conduct is inexcusable and deeply embarrassing. The ANC will not allow its name to be dragged through the mud by individuals who fail to uphold the dignity and decorum expected of all South Africans, let alone members of our organisation,” she said.

What do you think is the reason Mkhize mentioned who her father was?
