ANC battles DA in blame game over power cuts

The ANC in Tshwane has accused members of the DA and city workers of being behind the recent power cuts and damage to electricity infrastructure.

Unexpected power outages have hit several parts of the city in the last few weeks because of vandalism.

Pyramid Power Station, one of the biggest in the metro, was set on fire on 2 October. A broken security gate suggested that there had been foul play.

George Matjila, ANC regional secretary in Tshwane, said the problems seem part of a plan to sabotage the metro’s new ANC-led government.

“These power cuts started after Cilliers Brink was removed as mayor. It looks like someone is trying to mess up service delivery,” Matjila said.

He believes the attacks are meant to halt efforts to improve services and undermine people’s trust in the new government.

“This is not just about the mayor; it’s about destroying confidence in the whole administration,” Matjila said.

In response, DA spokesperson Kwena Moloto said the ANC should stop blaming others and focus on fixing the city.

“The ANC needs to get to work instead of pointing fingers,” Moloto said.

He added that power cuts are caused by vandalism and bad weather, and during the DA’s time in charge, they had a “war room” to deal with these issues.

He asked what the ANC was doing to fix the current problems.
