Amor and Joost married in December 2002, a year after he divorced his first wife, Marlene.
Their marriage was plagued with numerous scandalous headlines, from allegations of cheating drugs and claims their relationship began while the Springbok was married, the latter of which both denied.
Despite speculation, the couple were not divorced but separated at the time of his death. According to Joost & Amor: Behind the Headlines author Gavin Prins, the couple had reconciled but lived in separate homes. Amor was supportive of her spouse and often visited him with their two children.
BATTLE OVER SPRINGBOK’S LATE ESTATE
Following his death after his MND illness, Amor Vittone and Joost van der Westhuizen’s family were involved in a bitter dispute about his will.
In the months following his death, the contents of Joost’s will were made public. According to his family lawyer Ulrich Roux, the popular icon reportedly updated his will in 2015, appointing his brother Pieter as his executor.
In the new will, he left his entire estate to his two children with Amor, son Jordan, and daughter Kylie, via his trust. To his wife of 15 years, he left a television set.
However, Amor maintains a 2009 joint will, in which she was Joost’s only heir, was his only valid will. According to IOL, Amor petitioned the Supreme Court for leave to appeal the court’s ruling on the will. In a 2018 social media statement, Amore Vittone revealed that she would “appeal to death.”

In 2022, Amor posted a tearful post about her being deadlocked in the battle over her late husband’s estate. She claimed she had “no money” and relied on her parents for financial support. Her father, Dario, has since died.
Joost’s brother Pieter rubbished her claims at the time, claiming that Joost’s estate pays Amor R20 000 per month for the expenses of their children, Jordan and Kylie.
