A group of over 3000 Afrikaners who marched to the US Embassy in South Africa to thank President Donald Trump were seen belting out Die Stem, which was the country’s national anthem during the Apartheid era.
This, after the controversial statesman issued an executive order granting Afrikaners asylum or refugee status in America.
The large crowd handed over a memorandum thanking the controversial president for speaking out about SA’s “racist laws.”
THOUSANDS OF AFRIKANERS SING ‘DIE STEM’
In videos posted on social media, a large crowd of Afrikaners were seen outside the US Embassy to SA in Pretoria on Saturday, 15 February.
Members of the community held up posters thanking US President Donald Trump for his criticism of the SA government over what he believes is “racial discrimination” against white South Africans.
Many of the posters read: “Make South Africa Great Again”.
At one point, the crowd began singing Die Stem, which was the Afrikaans national anthem during Apartheid.

‘DIE STEM’ IN DEMOCRACY
Over thirty years ago, the first democratic president of South Africa – the late Nelson Mandela – ruled that Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika and Die Stem both be sung as national anthems. This later emerged as a shorter version, which we sing today.
Mandela welcomed that both Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika – a Christian hymn first penned by Enoch Sontonga in 1987 – and Die Stem, a poem written by CJ Langenhoven in 1918, be sung together as a gesture to respect all races and cultures in South Africa’s all-inclusive new era dawning of democracy.

Three years later, the Constitution adopted a shortened version of the songs, now including other official languages like Zulu, Sesotho, and English.
US EMBASSY ACKNOWLEDGES MEMORANDUM
Meanwhile, the US Embassy to SA has acknowledged the memorandum handed over by the group of Afrikaners.
In it, the group called on Donald Trump to help “change policies and laws affecting the Afrikaner community in South Africa.”
The Embassy pledged to pass on the memorandum to Trump and the US Secretary of State for “immediate action.”
