Rebecca Joy Adams, the first South African woman footballer to compete in Brazil, has extended her stay with Windhoek City FC in Namibia and has explained the reasons for her decision.

‘Becca’, as she is affectionately known, signed a one-year contract with Windhoek City [formerly known as Ramblers Women FC] in May of last year.

This came after she returned to South Africa in April 2023 from Brazil, where she played for Sao Bernado. The talented footballer, originally from Cape Town, signed for Windhoek City, having been without a club for nearly a year.

In the last term, the 25-year-old helped the Namibian side finish eighth with 24 points from 22 outings in the league.

REBECCA JOY ADAMS ON SIGNING A NEW DEAL WITH WINDHOEK CITY

In an interview with FARPost, the South African-born forward expressed her gratitude to her side for granting her another chance, stating that she aims to assist the team in improving from their performance last season and try to qualify for the COSAFA Women’s CAF Champions League qualifiers.

“I have decided to sign a new three-year contract with the team because I’m really enjoying my new challenge here in Namibia,” ‘Becca’ told this website.

“The environment is good, and the team welcomed me with open arms, which has helped me settle well in my first season with the club; hence, I did not hesitate to extend my stay.

“However, my first season with the club was a little different from what I was used to, but in a good way. Obviously, African leagues are different from European leagues in terms of space on and off the ball. I had to learn and adapt to the league’s style of play.”

Adams continued: “It’s something that took me a few months [adjusting to the style of play], and eventually, I got into the rhythm of those things.”

Prior to relocating to Brazil, she played college football in the USA for the Northeast Texas community, where she gained the interest of Sao Bernado.

In South Africa, she played for Vasco da Gama in the Sasol League Women’s League.
