8-hour power outage to affect 16 Joburg suburbs

City Power Johannesburg has announced that there will be a planned power outage affecting 16 suburbs. The outage will last for 8 hours on different days in different areas.

REASON FOR POWER INTERRUPTION

City Power Johannesburg stated that the interruption is necessary to perform maintenance work on their electricity network. 

“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” the statement read.

City Power apologised for the inconvenience caused by the power outage.

AREAS THAT WILL BE AFFECTED BY OUTAGE

These are the 18 suburbs that will be affected by the outage and the dates:

TUESDAY, 21 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at Florin Rd Switching Station from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following areas:

  • Florin
  • Little Falls
  • Strubens Valley
  • Portion of Honeydew

WEDNESDAY, 22 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at Staugh Vorster Switching Substation from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following areas:

  • Johnson and Johnson Warehouse on Medical Road
  • Part of 16th Road
  • 3rd Road
  • MSD on 16th Road

WEDNESDAY, 22 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at New Market Switching Station from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following areas:

  • Northlands Business Park
  • Northlands Deco Park
  • Epsom Road
  • New Market Road

WEDNESDAY, 22 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at Penny Str Substation from 8:00 to 16:00 at the following areas:

  • Witpoortjie
  • Groblers Park
  • Lindhaven

TUESDAY, 28 January 2025. The power interruption will occur at Domkrag Switching Station from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following area:

The planned power interruption at Orchards Substation has been rescheduled until further notice.

City Power Johannesburg stated that a cable fault has been located at Paarlshoop, Riverlea and Industria and the contractor is currently making repairs on the fault. There will be four load centers that will remain off until repairs are completed.

A power outage affecting Pageview, Vrededorp and surrounding areas has been identified. The City said that they have restored 46% of the power supply and will restore the remaining 54% of the power supply.

Planned maintenance at Hursthill SDC for the whole week has been postponed until further notice.
