WAYS TO REDUCE ELECTRICITY USAGE
Consuming a lot of electricity sometimes results in large bill amounts at the end of the month. However, there are ways that can be used to reduce high electricity usage that can save you money.
Buy energy-efficient appliances
According to EnergySage, when purchasing an energy-efficient appliance, search for the Energy Star label. The Energy Star label is a guarantee that the appliance will consume less energy than other models.
Avoid traditional incandescent
Purchase government-backed symbol light bulbs that contain Energy Star. These certified LED light bulbs use up to 90% less energy than an incandescent light bulb.
Use a smart thermostat
Smart thermostats help reduce heating and cooling energy. They automatically turn off or reduce heating while you are away, saving you up to 8% of your heating and cooling bills.
Reduce water heating
Learn to use less heated water, especially on a hot day. Turn down the thermostat on your water heater or insulate your water heater and hot and cold water pipes. You can also consider buying a tankless water heater, as they are energy efficient. However, they are not ideal for a large family, as they cannot handle multiple uses of hot water.
Turn off the lights
When you are asleep or not in your room, it is essential to turn off the lights. You can develop this habit by setting a reminder to turn off the lights when away.
What other ways do you think can be used to reduce electricity usage?
