Kaizer Chiefs could release close to eight players before next season as they look to make room for more signings.
Ex-Amakhosi has given his thoughts on what the club needs to compete for top honours. Under Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs have made a total of 10 new signings this season. Only half of them have impressed meaning the club might have to spend big in the transfer market during the pre-season
Speaking to Peter du Toit on SoccerBeat, Masilela highlighted six players who could potentially join Kaizer Chiefs. The players include Sipho Mbule, Neo Maema, Rowan Human, Sphephelo Sithole, Feisal Salum and Thembinkosi Lorch
The former Bafana Bafana left-back said that Amakhosi must consider Mamelodi Sundowns players such as Mbule and Maema.
“I think they should sign him (Mbule). Definitely a risky signing. We don’t work with the player every day but the stories we read, that’s a cause for concern, I’d take that risk now if I were Kaizer Chiefs,” Masilela said.
Regarding Maema, the retired left-back felt the Bafana midfielder has not played enough football over the years.
Kaizer Chiefs looking to sign Sundowns stars?
“I like the boy Peter but again, it becomes a concern when you don’t play regularly in the past two seasons. If I were to choose between Mbule and Maema, I would choose Mbule even though he is a risk signing.”
Another player Masilela wants at Kaizer Chiefs is Sithole. “I like Yaya, we all saw him on the field and what he can do during the last Afcon. He was together with Tebza in the midfield. Chiefs need to go and get guys that are already in the national setup,” he said.
Kaizer Chiefs could let go of at least eight players. Reeve Frosler and Ranga Chivariro have their contracts expiring end of June. Zita Kwinika, George Matlou and Gaston Sirino are also rumoured to be leaving the Soweto giants.
The club has sent Christian Saile and Mduduzi Mdantsane on loan while Njabulo Blom has failed to impress during his loan spell from the MLS.
