5 tips to prevent dry, brittle hair this winter

If you want to keep your hair healthy this winter, you’re in the right place! In the past, cold weather, dry indoor heat, and wind made my hair feel brittle and frizzy. But with a few simple changes, I’ve learnt a few tips to keep my hair soft and hydrated all season.

Here are five easy tips I use to prevent dry hair and keep my hair shiny this winter:

Use a Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner , Top Tips to Prevent Dry Hair

I choose the right shampoo and conditioner. This is important. Look for moisturising products that have nourishing ingredients like argan oil, shea butter, or coconut oil. These ingredients have helped me restore moisture and protect my hair from the drying effects of winter.

Limit Hot Water When Washing Your Hair

Hot water feels nice, but it removes the natural oils from your hair that keep it moisturised. I’ve found that washing my hair with lukewarm or cool water helps keep moisture in, making it less likely to become dry or break.

Avoid Heat Styling or Use Heat Protectants

Using heat styling tools like blow dryers and straighteners can make your hair drier, especially in winter. I try to let my hair air-dry more often. If you do use heat, always apply a heat protectant spray to protect your hair.

Deep Condition or Use Hair Masks Weekly

Using a deep conditioner or hair mask once a week is a great way to stop dry hair, but many people ignore it. These treatments provide strong hydration and repair, and have helped me to make my brittle hair soft and strong again.

Protect Your Hair from Cold and Wind

Cover your hair with a scarf, hat, or hood when you go outside. This protects your hair from the cold wind and air, which can dry it out. Taking this simple step helps keep moisture in your hair and makes it look healthier.

You don’t have to suffer from dry hair in winter. Follow my tips to keep your hair soft and manageable all season long.

Please note. These are my personal suggestions for hair care based on my own experience. For any specific concerns, please consult a dermatologist or hair care professional.
