The world’s most dangerous countries revealed

The world’s most dangerous countries to visit in 2025 have been revealed, with South Africa, unfortunately, not faring too well.

A 2025 study by Numbeo has ranked 147 countries across the globe using a crime index, which assessed the overall level of crime in a country.

The index consisted of survey responses about how safe residents and visitors feel while walking during the day and night, as well as reports of violent crimes, homicide, muggings, robbery, sexual and physical offences, harassment, discrimination, burglary and more.

Countries were then given a score or rating out of 100 for their level of crime.

As per this list, the South American nation of Venezuela claimed the top spot for crime, with a high score of 80.7 out of 100.

Coming in second on the list was Papua New Guinea, with a score of 80.3, followed by Haiti with a score of 78.9.

Fourth was Afghanistan, scoring 75.1, and rounding off the top five most dangerous countries to visit in 2025 was South Africa with a score of 74.7.

South Africa was also the most dangerous country to visit in all of Africa, with Nigeria and Angola coming in second and third, respectively.
